- Operate as open shop companies or have open shop divisions
- Recruit skilled craft labor from a company website.
- Work at heavy construction in the industrial, power, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
Open shop, also called merit shop contractors are those contractors that have not been organized by trades unions. They do not have contracts with trades unions and are not bound by union rules. They set their own competitive pay scales and are only required to operate within legal limits. Open shop construction workers are free agents and they comprise over 80 Percent of the nations construction workforce.
